Why is it that when you submit a request for translation to a number of translation agencies, you don’t always get the same word count from each agency? Do these agencies just pick the numbers out of thin air, or is there logic behind the varying word counts?

When you need a quote for your translation, you simply call or email the agency and ask for one. What you don’t expect, is the array of questions about your translation from the agency quoting your request. From what format the documents are in, to how you would like the files delivered to you and everything in between –when requesting a quote for translation, or typesetting services, there is certain information that you will be required to provide to the translation agency.

Long ago the world had one language and few words. One day, a group of architects decided to write a manual containing sensitive information on the design of a tower they were building in their city. The tower was to reach the sky and would ultimately determine their greatness. Their pride and confidence took over and they soon ignored their boss. As punishment, their boss scattered the architects across the entire earth and made them all speak different languages. This created much confusion, and so the city was named Babel. Many years passed and no-one could unlock the secrets of the tower, at least until the birth of the great Babel Fish.
