We (The Indigenous Theatre at the National Arts Centre) required short translations in a variety of dialects: Algonquin, Michif, Plains Cree, Woods Cree and Halq’eméylem. As part of my degree, I worked as an intern at wintranslation for eleven weeks. My colleagues were very friendly and, as I live in France, working remotely was perfect. Indigenous QA is a task that requires dedication and patience and it was a great way to gain knowledge about Aboriginal culture and languages. The revision of child books was also a great experience. It pushed me to ask myself questions I wouldn’t even have considered if the text was written for an adult. I recommend this company to any students looking to gain experience in the field of translation and revision, or to test their ability to work remotely and independently.

I have done translations for wintranslation for about 2-3 years. I have been a translator and interpreter for most of my life. Now that I am retired wintranslation is there to keep me going. I like doing work for winstranslation because of the challenges. It keeps my mind alert and brings back some of the words I had forgotten. I also like the payment part. I approached wintranslation because I needed a series of Educational Posters translated into Swampy Cree to facilitate a broader reach to our Indigenous audience. Wintranslation made the process easy even when I was unable to communicate regularly. I had a great experience working with wintranslation. I called first to get an idea of what specific Indigenous dialect I would need translation into based on my program’s region and they were very helpful.
