Indigenous languages in Canada
Did you know that there are more than 70 distinct Indigenous languages spoken across Canada? Or that Quebec is the province with the highest number of Indigenous language speakers in the country? Our latest infographic, below, sheds light on the myriad voices across the land, weaving a rich tapestry of Indigenous cultural heritage.
Many Indigenous languages in Canada and around the world are endangered, and they may be lost without concerted efforts to document, revitalize, and promote them. With insights shared from recent statistical data, our illustration below aims to impart knowledge about the importance, diversity, and popularity of various Indigenous languages spoken from coast to coast to coast. We wish to extend our thanks to the talented Lauren Polchies, a Wolastogiyik graphic designer from Woodstock First Nation, who worked with us to create this infographic.
