Need A Chilcotin Translation? We Can Help.
Chilcotin (Tsilhqot’in, Tzilkotin) is a member of the Northern Athabaskan language family which is made up of 31 different languages divided into seven geographic subgroups. The language is spoken in central British Columbia by the Tsilhqot’in people whose name simply translates to “people of Chilco river”. Today it’s estimated that there are only about 1200 speakers of Chilcotin but ongoing efforts are made to keep the language alive.
Interesting fact: Chilcotin has forty-seven consonants and six vowels plus tone, which makes for a notoriously complex phonological system!
