I am an Inuk (Eskimo) translator from Nunavut, and I translate documents to my dialect. I enjoy working with Wintranslation because they provide me with income needed to buy groceries which are very high in Nunavut. Working as an intern at wintranslation was a great experience. The staff is very friendly and the flexible hours were ideal as a student. Through hiring Aboriginal translators, I gained research skills and knowledge about Aboriginal culture and languages. I definitely recommend it to any students looking to gain experience in the field of translation.

When we needed a large, complex document translated from English to French on a tight timeline, wintranslation was able to take on the job without delay, and get it done on time with good quality. They even identified some issues with the English version that we were able to fix before it was published — an added value! Our organization needed several materials translated into Atikamekw and Naskapi to promote rail safety in Indigenous communities. Wintranslation responded to our request and provided us with an accurate quote and estimated turnaround time — which was surprisingly quick. I have done translations for wintranslation for about 2-3 years. I have been a translator and interpreter for most of my life. Now that I am retired wintranslation is there to keep me going. I had a great experience working with wintranslation. I called first to get an idea of what specific Indigenous dialect I would need translation into based on my program’s region and they were very helpful. I received a quick response back on my request for a quote and prompt and polite service throughout the entire interaction. As part of my degree, I worked as an intern at wintranslation for eleven weeks. My colleagues were very friendly and, as I live in France, working remotely was perfect. Indigenous QA is a task that requires dedication and patience and it was a great way to gain knowledge about Aboriginal culture and languages. The revision of child books was also a great experience. It pushed me to ask myself questions I wouldn’t even have considered if the text was written for an adult. I recommend this company to any students looking to gain experience in the field of translation and revision, or to test their ability to work remotely and independently.
