Learn about Indigenous languages in Canada on International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

On August 9th, we join the global community in celebrating the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples and honoring the cultural diversity and invaluable contributions of Indigenous communities worldwide. This important day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1994. It commemorates the first meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations, held in Geneva in 1982.

Languages are at the heart of Indigenous cultures, carrying the wisdom, traditions, and histories of peoples across generations. As a translation company specializing in Indigenous language translations, we are committed to supporting the preservation and revitalization of these languages. One way you can mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is by learning more about the Indigenous languages in Canada. We invite you to check out our infographic, below, designed by Lauren Polchies, a Wolastogiyik graphic designer from Woodstock First Nation.
