As part of my degree, I worked as an intern at wintranslation for eleven weeks. My colleagues were very friendly and, as I live in France, working remotely was perfect. Indigenous QA is a task that requires dedication and patience and it was a great way to gain knowledge about Aboriginal culture and languages. The revision of child books was also a great experience. It pushed me to ask myself questions I wouldn’t even have considered if the text was written for an adult. I recommend this company to any students looking to gain experience in the field of translation and revision, or to test their ability to work remotely and independently.

Working with Wintranslation has been very rewarding for me and our Anishinaabe people.  It has given me the opportunity to apply our language, which is not part of our everyday vocabulary, to the translations I have been doing.  It has also given me the opportunity to develop new translations for words that are new to our language. With respect to the payment method, it is on time, and if there is a need to receive payment before the scheduled date, they will usually accommodate the request.  The rapport with the employees was great and they were always supportive. We (The Indigenous Theatre at the National Arts Centre) required short translations in a variety of dialects: Algonquin, Michif, Plains Cree, Woods Cree and Halq’eméylem. Wintranslation helped us find the best match from their available translators and overall had all of the dialects we needed. They were competent, friendly, and helped us meet our tight deadlines efficiently.

I approached wintranslation because I needed a series of Educational Posters translated into Swampy Cree to facilitate a broader reach to our Indigenous audience. Wintranslation made the process easy even when I was unable to communicate regularly. I have done translations for wintranslation for about 2-3 years. I have been a translator and interpreter for most of my life. Now that I am retired wintranslation is there to keep me going. I like doing work for winstranslation because of the challenges. It keeps my mind alert and brings back some of the words I had forgotten. I also like the payment part. They usually pay when I request payment earlier than scheduled. I don’t have to wait 4-6 weeks for payment.
